Winton L. Johnson, a beloved member of Reidsville, passed away Thursday, March 5,2026, at the age of 87. Winton was born in Emaunel County on October 22, 1938, to Otis L. and Pearl Wilson Johnson, Sr and had lived in Tattnall County most of his life.
A graduate of Reidsville High School in 1957, Winton went on to have a remarkable career as the owner and operator of T&W Tire for an impressive 35 years. In addition to his business acumen, Winton was also a devoted cattle farmer, a vocation that underscored his deep connection to the land and his commitment to the agricultural community.
Winton proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, demonstrating values of duty and service that he carried throughout his life. His military experience complemented his role as a respected leader in his community, particularly as a deacon of Twin Oaks Baptist Church. He played a pivotal role in rebuilding the church after a fire several years ago, contributing significantly to the restoration and personally undertaking much of the woodwork within its walls. This dedication to his faith and community was a testament to his character.
Known for being outgoing and talkative, Winton had a unique talent for storytelling, often sharing tales about the old times that delighted those around him. He cherished the moments spent fishing, woodworking, and horseback riding, pursuits that brought him joy and connected him with nature.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Billy Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia "Patsy" Johnson of Collins; his children, Helga (JR) Lowry of MS, Heidi (Steve) Edwards, Tracy Johnson, Chris (Becky) Johnson, Robert (Amanda) Johnson, and Van (Cathy) Johnson all of Collins; brother, Otis Lester (Ruby) Johnson, Jr., 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with the Reverends Gerald Dorr and Justin Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Little Flock Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Landon Kirkland, Alex Johnson, Sean Mobley, Trey Kirkland, Ricky Williams, and Timothy Johnson.
