Mr. Edwin McCumber, age 72, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. He was born in Reidsville on August 12, 1948 to Lewis Reynolds and Annie Pearl McCumber and lived in Tattnall County for many years before moving to Toombs County in 1985. Mr. Edwin worked for Pike Electrical for 18 years before he started his construction business, McCumber Enterprises, Inc. He loved his family, fishing, and Nascar. Edwin was raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and sustained his faith throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Robert McCumber, L.R. McCumber, Thomas Eldred McCumber, Jerry Dean McCumber, Louise Durrence, and Nell Yeomans.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Jean McCumber of Lyons; daughter, Melanie McCumber Hart of Lyons; grandson, Mark McCumber Hart of Lyons siblings, Walker McCumber of Savannah, Henry McCumber of Vidalia, Ralph McCumber of Ellabell, Faye Wilson of Savannah, Frances Thompson of Jesup, and Vickie Fanning of Reidsville; numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the Covid Virus, the family will have a private graveside service on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 with Speaker Andrew McCumber officiating at the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy McCumber, Shannon McCumber, William McCumber, Terry Anderson, David Toole and Allen Oglesby.
