Mr. Eugene Edwards aka Peanut Man, age 73, passed away Monday, October 12, 2020 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. He was born in Lyons on June 9, 1947 to Manzy and Alice Edwards and lived most of his life in Reidsville. For over 10 years Eugene worked for Southern Nuclear at Plant Hatch. Following his love of the outdoors and meeting new friends and fellowshipping with old ones, he began a roadside vegetable and peanut business. People from near and far would travel to buy his wares. Countless times, you could see a post on Facebook asking, “Is the Peanut Man in Claxton (or Reidsville) today.” He even expanded his operation to include his kids in the business, allowing him to have stands in multiple towns at the same time. His love of people led him to keep serving even as his health began to decline. In as much as he loved his customers, his love for God was above all else. He was a faithful member of Reidsville Church of God. In his free time, he enjoyed carpentry and fishing. Eugene was a true icon of our area; his memory will live on. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Edwards; siblings, Grace Padgett, Joe Edwards, and Keith Edwards.
He is survived by his wife of 56yrs, Lizzie Padgett Edwards of Reidsville; children, Elizabeth (Billy) Smith, Eugene (Judy) Edwards of Lyons, Rebecca Edwards of Reidsville, Gary (Mandi) Edwards of Bartow and Sarah Edwards of Reidsville; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at the Reidsville Church of God with the funeral services to follow at 2:00pm with the Reverends William Prince and Linda Prince officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Powell, Rob Shore, Sr., Rocky Hutcheson, Bobby Powell, Lynn Edwards, and Luke Edwards.
