Greg Williamson

Greg Williamson (husband of Mabel Griner Williamson) passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, after a short illness.  He always shared that he was the first baby born at the previous Vidalia Memorial Hospital on September 20, 1963. He graduated from Fayette County High School in 1981.  He met Mabel in June 2000 and they became a married couple on February 02, 2002.  This marriage was truly a blessing to each of them.

Greg is the son of Cleo Akins Jacobs and Jerry Jacobs of Tyrone, GA, and Michael Williamson (deceased) of Oak Park, GA.  His grandparents were Eugene and Carolie Akins (maternal) and G.B. and Zelma Williamson of Oak Park (paternal).

His siblings are Chris Williamson of Tyrone, GA, Tracy Williamson Sutton (Perry) of Senoia, and Jeff Jacobs (Mindy) of Gilbert, SC.

His children are Ashley Williamson and Melissa Williamson of Newnan, GA. Stepsons are Nicolas (Pam) Worthy of Rochelle, Jared (Kelley) Worthy of Cordele, and Benjamin Worthy of Athens.

He dearly loved his grandchildren:  Ethan Worthy, Logan Worthy, Sarah Kate Worthy, and Eliza Jane Worthy of Rochelle; Lyndon Worthy, WIlkes Worthy of Cordele; and Trey Williamson, Aubrey and Ava of Newnan.

Greg also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved and they loved him!!

Greg enjoyed working with Miss Cleo and Pop at the family restaurant, the Shamrock Kitchen, in Tyrone, GA.  When he moved to south Georgia, he worked in woodworking, cooked part-time at Bobcat’s Diner in Collins, and ran his own yard business.

He was a member of Collins First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, helped with VBS, and worked in helping others in the food ministry.

Greg always wanted to help others and shared a special light in him to show them his care and love.

A period of public visitation and fellowship will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Collins Baptist Church in Collins.

Due to the threat of COVID, the family has scheduled a family only funeral service to be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Collins Baptist Church in Collins with Rev. David Lamm officiating.

Interment will follow the services in Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Toombs County.

Pallbearers will be Nic Worthy, Ben Worthy, Jared Worthy, Austen Jacobs, Kelly Newton, Brett Brinson, Camden Jackson, and Trent Akins.

Although the family is honored by all expressions of sympathy; in lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to either, Tommy & Shirley Strickland Cancer Center, One Meadows Parkway Vidalia GA 30474, or to his home church, Collins First Baptist, PO BOX 218 Collins GA 30421.
