Harold E. Oliver

March 12, 1931 — April 12, 2022

Collins, Ga.

Harold E. Oliver, Sr., long time resident of Tattnall County died of natural cause on April 12, 2022 at Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lyons.  He was 91 years old.  Harold was the eldest child of Eugen and Omi Oliver of Cobbtown, Ga.  Their family also included a daughter, Audrey.

Harold was stricken with a childhood illness which left him too physically weak to participate in many of the activities involved in working on the farm, so he concentrated on his studies and gospel music.  He played guitar and sang with his mother and sister in the Oliver Trio and the FFA Quartet.  He also became an excellent student. He Graduated from Collins High School and was awarded a scholarship to Draughon's Business College where his favorite subject was law.

After graduation, he accepted a job with the Virginia/Carolina Fertilizer Company and was transferred to Albany, Georgia.  He worked in that industry in various locations around the country for over 30 years. Eventually he bought and operated Cordele Fertilizer Company.  He spent his entire career working with farmers helping them improve their land and their lives and he loved it.  At 91, he could still discuss the specific nutrients needed for pecans and cotton.

An active church member all of his life, he served as Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, Choir member, Bus Driver, and maintenance man whenever and wherever needed.

Harold and Dorothy Oliver were married for fifty-nine years before her death in 2010.  They had three children.  He is survived by son Harold E. Oliver, Jr. (Judy), daughter, Irma Jones (Cecil),grandchildren, Kelley Owenby (David), Clayton Jones (Desiree), Katie McBee (Nathan), and one great grandson, Lawrence F. Jones, whom he always referred to as "The Boss".  Daughter Anita died at the age of 6 from leukemia.

Our entire family would like to thank our friends, Ms. Vondell McNair and her son Danny, for all their kindness and support.  She, in her very special way, made life so much better for our dad, and all of us, during these past years and especially during his illness.
