Ina Mae Harris

January 16, 1923 — February 4, 2023

Reidsville

Ina Mae Harris, age 100, gained her Heavenly reward on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  The lifelong Tattnall native was born on January 16, 1923, to Mr. Cornelious and Mrs. Eddie (Bell) Harris.  As a small child growing up through the Great Depression, she experienced some of the most difficult days in American history.  As such, she was raised with a strong work ethic and was expected to help around the farm with her family.  After she became a mother, she worked to instill that same spirit of work in her children; they too helped in the tobacco and cotton fields and other jobs around the farm.  Later in her life she would go on to work in another laborious industry, manufacturing.  Ina Mae would work for Lyons Manufacturing up until the 60’s and then at Claxton Manufacturing until the business closed many years later.  Following the closure of the manufacturing plants, she would begin work with Concerted Services for several years until her retirement.  Even in what was considered her “golden years” Ina Mae would give selflessly to others.  Many people recall her taking any and every one that needed a ride to their doctor appointments.  Her countless trips earned her the nickname “Reidsville Taxi”!  A child of Christ and a giving heart, she followed the example of her Lord and was always quick to help those in need.  Most especially through feeding the hungry in her community.  Although she had a strong work ethic, she would take some time to unwind and her favorite way to do that was with a fishing pole in her hand.  Other hobbies harkened back to her agricultural upbringing; she grew produce and nurtured her fruit trees.  Having a green thumb, she also was masterful at propagating various ornamental flowers as well.  Ina Mae Harris was blessed to inspire others, instill values to her beloved family, and illuminate the glory of God for over 100 years; her light on this side of Heaven will be sorely missed.  She is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Mildred Haley and Delouis Parker; two sons, Ronnie Harris, and Randy Harris; a brother, Tommy Lee Tyson; and a nephew, Tommy Lee Tyson, Jr;.

Left to cherish a blessed lifetime of memories are her ten daughters, Cornelious Harris of Reidsville, Linda Goslee of Reidsville, Elaine Harris of Reidsville, Wanda Perez of Reidsville, Altanese Harris of Hinesville, Latrale Lewis of Lyons, Cheryl (Willie) Brantley of Lyons, Bernice Freeman of Vidalia, Janice (Brian) Flamer of Kileen, Texas, and Brenda Lyons of Kentucky; one son, James Harris of Lyons; a niece, Wynell Johnson, 5 generations of grandchildren and great grandchildren; a host of other family members and countless friends made along life’s journey also survive.
