Obituary

James “Jim” Alvis Waters, age 65, passed away on January 10, 2022, after an extended illness.  The native of Americus moved to Tattnall County in his youth.  He would go on to graduate from Pinewood Christian Academy in 1974.  Following graduation, he would embark on his career with the Georgia State Patrol.  His early years with GSP was as a radio operator and ultimately, he would retire as a State Trooper.  Although he would see many areas of the state with his job, he always considered Tattnall County his home.  Jim was always active and needed to do “something”, and that led him to establish a trucking company, B. Waters, Inc. that he would operate for several years.  Later in life, his devotion to his community would have him seek to serve the citizens of Reidsville in an elected position.  He was first elected to serve as a Reidsville City Councilman and in 2021 he would be elected as Mayor.  Unfortunately, his health rapidly declined following the election and he reluctantly was forced to vacate the office.  Throughout the years, in his idle time, Jim always enjoyed farming, fishing and supporting his favorite Nascar race team.  For many years he and his wife would travel to various places, but among his favorite places was the beach and the mountains.  Jim is a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his parents, Romie and Emily Jo Waters, a sister, Cynthia “Cindy” Waters O’Neal, and his father-in-law, Charles Spikes.

He is survived by his wife, Belinda Spikes Waters of Reidsville; children, Justin Jarriel of Collins, Abbey (Lee) Johnson of Collins, Dalton (Ginny) Rushing of Register, Cole (Jessi) Waters of Cobbtown, Megan (James) Calvert of Cobbtown and Alexis Waters of Reidsville; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Sandy Waters; 9 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from the hours of 11:00am to 1:00pm on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the funeral home.  Graveside funeral services will follow at 2:00pm from the Reidsville City Cemetery with Dr. Charles Jonas officiating.  Honors will be provided by the Georgia State Patrol Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Attriss Nail and Stevie Durrence.

Flowers will be welcomed or memorial donations may be given to the Georgia Public Memorial Safety Grant.
