James "Jimmy" W. McDaniel

James "Jimmy" McDaniel, a beloved member of the Collins community, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the age of 82, leaving a void in the hearts of his family and friends. Born on October 17, 1940, in Collins to Fet and Maudie Williams McDaniel, he grew up in Cobbtown and graduated from Collins High School in 1958. Mr. Jimmy went on to become a successful businessman and owned and operated Tattnall Tire in Reidsville for many years, serving his customers with integrity and honesty.

Mr. Jimmy had a passion for drag racing and was a familiar face at many of the areas surrounding tracks. He was also an active member of Collins Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for 42 years, participating in Sunday school classes, singing in the choir, and mentoring young people. Later in life he loved spending time with his only grandchild, Emma, and cherished every moment they shared together and was always ready to do whatever she wanted!  Mr. Jimmy's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of kindness, generosity, and selflessness will continue to inspire others for generations to come.

Mr. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Dana Kate Alexander McDaniel.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Ellen McDaniel of Jesup; granddaughter, Emma McDaniel of Reidsville; his companion for the past 17 years, Mrs. Betty Williams of Cobbtown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dale and Carol Alexander of Collins, and Gale and Dan Williams of Kingsland; and a nephew, Richard Alexander of North Augusta.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Collins Baptist Church, with Reverends David Lamm and Bob Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Jimmy will lie in state beginning at 1:30 pm at the Church.

Pallbearers will be Greg Boyett, Ray James, Keith Mack, Frank Murphy, Brian Shuman, and Steven Shuman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Boyett, Bobby Holland, Tony Hutcheson, Calvin Shuman, Darrell Thigpen, and Bruce White.

The family will be honored by flowers or donations may be made in memory of Jimmy McDaniel to Hospice of South Georgia, Inc., 1625 Sunset Blvd Jesup, GA 31545.

Additionally, the family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lance Hendrix and Wayne Memorial Hospital staff for the love and care they provided.
