Mr. Jimmy D. Grooms, age 76, passed away Saturday March 13, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family and under the care of Georgia Hospice Care.  He was born in Glennville on November 1, 1944 to Oren D. and Myrtle Bacon Grooms and had lived in Tattnall County for most of his life before moving to Claxton 29 years ago.  Jimmy was a master brick mason that mentored many in the trade.  He was an avid pool player and loved to play golf.  He is a member of the Mendes Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Harry Grooms, Edsel Grooms, Marlene Deal, Elton Grooms, and Frank Grooms.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sarah “Jeanie” McDonald Bergeson of Claxton; daughter, Avis G. (Michael) Peek of Lyons; step children, Eric Bergeson of Florida and Theresa (Jerome) Diaz of Woodbine, GA; sisters in law, Shirley Grooms of Glennville, Mildred Mackinnon of Claxton and Judy Waddle of Glennville; 6 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be conducted 5:00pm on Monday, March 15, 2021from the Chapel of Glennville Funeral Home  with Brother Steve Long officiating.

Memorials may be given to Georgia Hospice Care
