Johnnie "Harold" Dubberly

October 16, 1933 — June 26, 2021

Glennville/Savannah

Johnnie Harold Dubberly (87) passed away Saturday. June 26, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his family. Handsome and fun to be around, he married Freida Mae Mallard on April 3, 1952, at Piney Grove, Wayne County, Georgia, USA. His one regret in life is that he did not ask Freida to marry him on the first day they met. The Dubberly family finds continual comfort in their faith, knowing that life continues through eternity, and that Harold is reunited now with his beloved Freida, who passed away December 4, 2020.

An upholsterer who took pride in his work for sixty-nine years, he had worked side by side with Freida in their Dubberly Upholstery in Savannah and Glennville, Georgia. The industrious couple were in high demand for their extraordinary craftsmanship, dependability, and expertise. Wherever you saw Harold, Freida was there also. They were a strong team together in their work life and in rearing their family.

It was Harold the young farm boy who intuitively loved being in the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. He enjoyed collecting vintage furniture and automobiles. Through their years of marriage, Harold and Freida enjoyed gathering their family around the kitchen table, reading and laughing together, working in family gardens and landscapes, attending church, kneeling for family prayer, and enjoying rural life at the family's getaway retreat at the 'pond house' away from city life. Known for his generosity and kindness to family, friends, and strangers, Harold served in unpaid religious and leadership roles in his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was Branch President in the Glennville area for twelve years. Through his integrity and humble, Christian devotion to God, his fellowman, and family, Harold did what was needful for all of his family -- he, his wife and three children -- to be sealed together as a united family forever in the church's Idaho Falls Temple, Idaho Falls, Idaho, in August 1965.
Harold was born October 16, 1933, in Glennville, Tattnall County, Georgia. His parents are the late James Elbert Dubberly and Samantha Vasti Todd, who together reared 10 children: James Revis Dubberly, Retha Vasti Dubberly, Johnnie Harold Dubberly, Reba Dean Dubberly, Anna Lou Dubberly, Mary Sue Dubberly, Lucy Vioa Dubberly, Ruby Nell Dubberly, Samuel Leo Dubberly, and Martha Jean Dubberly.

Johnnie Harold Dubberly is survived by his and Freida's three children: Lala Diane Adams, Freida Darlene Welch (Mark), and Ronnie Harold Dubberly; six grandchildren: Lisa Darlene Hutcheson (Donald), Richard Keith Welch (Amanda), Scott Anthony Welch (Angel), Ashley Marie Protsman (Joseph), Dustin Xavier Welch (Katie), April Victoria Omega Dant (Stephen); and thirteen great grandchildren: Ariel Brooke Blakey (deceased 2019), Makaila Lauren Hutcheson, Kiera Nicole Hutcheson, Kinsley Hunter Hutcheson,  Zoe Welch, Marissa Alexei Welch, Caitlyn Marie Brown (Jeremiah), Eli Anthony Welch, Kailey Marie Protsman, Peyton Joseph Protsman, Cooper Greyson Protsman, Stephen Ryan Dant, Jacob Anthony Dant; and two great-great grandchildren: Bryson Zayne Blakey, and Isaac Joseph Brown, plus three more family additions are on the way.

Family, neighbors, and friends are invited to a visitation on July 6, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Funeral services will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home (The Glennville Funeral Home), 403 West Barnard Street Glennville, Georgia 30427. Burial will be in Glennville City Cemetery.
