Joseph "Joe" Harris Woods

May 5, 1948 — May 16, 2020

Glennville

Mr. Joseph Harris Woods, age 72, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020 at his residence.  He was born May 5, 1948 in Cumberland County, NC to Lee Ira and Eleanor Brannen Woods and had lived in Glennville most of his life.  The 1966 graduate of Glennville High School went on to enroll at Georgia Southern University.  His tenure there would get cut short as the Vietnam War raged on.  Not one to allow the fact that he was “in school”, nor an only son deter him, he would enlist in the United States Army.  After his honorable discharge from the Army he would return to his studies.  This time, he would enroll at Armstrong State College and would graduate with his Bachelor’s degree.   Following his graduation, he would begin a life that would lead him to Fort Stewart where he would work in Civil Service for the remainder of his career.  Faith never failed him and he rose to be an Elder at Glennville First Christian Church.  He would teach a Sunday School Class for over 45 years; a testament to his faith in the Lord.  In his free time he was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and was able to attend many games, but watch and cheer on for many more!  Even though baseball was a passion, his grandkids were his life.  He would relish every opportunity to spend time with them and take full advantage of those fleeting moments.  He was a hero in the eyes of his country, a leader in the eyes of his family , and a child in the eyes of his Lord; his life will forever be remembered. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves behind to cherish the life made together, his wife of 48 years, Linda Lance Woods of Glennville; daughters and sons in law, Angelyn and Don Tuttle of Richmond Hill and Jennifer and Phillip Carlson of Glennville; sister and brother in law, Lana and Jim Williams of Grovetown, GA; grandchildren, Charlie, Joey, and Lucy Tuttle, Chloe, Cooper, Logan and Griffin Carlson; nephews, Jeff, Keith, Chris and Matt Williams.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Glennville Funeral Home with the funeral services to follow at 11:00am with the Reverend Martin Bender officiating.  Interment will follow in the Glennville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rickey Anderson, Cecil Branch, Keith Williams, Jeff Williams, Robin Stewart, and Brant Kicklighter,

Memorials may be given to the Ronald McDonald House 4710 Waters Avenue, Savannah, GA 31404 or Camp Kicklighter Foundation c/o Greg Durrence, 1661 Winchester Dr, Sylvania
