LIVING MY LIFE LIKE IT’S GOLDEN

Lestine Karen Williams was born August 24,1953 in New Rochelle, NY to the late Lester and Christine Jackson. At the age of 66, she passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 26,2020.

Growing up Lestine loved playing cards...anything from Gin Rummy, Bid Wist and Spades. She also embraced the Rastafarian culture. Reggae was one of her favorite types of music. Her extracurricular activities included a form of martial arts-she loved to fight. LOL. Lestine attended the public schools in New York and graduated from New Rochelle High School.

Lestine was like a Sour Patch kid, known to speak her mind and feisty but mixed with just the right amount of sweetness. She was a hard worker who took great pride in her jobs working at the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Yonkers NY, to her position as a prison guard in Georgia where she was affectionately known as GG which stood for Gangsta Granny!!

Les as she was called wed her loving husband John in September 2001. They moved to Tatnall County Georgia in 2008 where she quickly made many friends in the area. She enjoyed taking rides to Wally World (Walmart). Her greatest joys came from spending time with her family. Her trips included traveling to New York, North Dakota and Delaware. While up north she always made sure to get her favorite mango water ice from Ritas’s. Wherever she went she made sure to take lots of photos to capture the memories she made with her children and grandchildren, this was evident by the many pictures frames that adorned the walls in her home.

Her daughter Latanya says,”The greatest memory I have of my Mom is no matter where we went in New York or Georgia  she would always see someone who knew her and spoke of her with high esteem! Her presence was always memorable! She is Greatly Loved!”

Josh’s fond memory of Ma is a time he was on a 3-way call with Aubrey and they were about to hang up so they both said 1 and mommy shouts 2. They both broke out laughing and asked her what was she talking about. Ma asked them what we gonna gang hang up on 3?!

She was preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish a lifetime of memories is her husband John Williams Jr.; four sons, Aubrey (Donielle) Spencer of Wilmington,DE, Joshua (Erica) Spencer of North Dakota, Justin Brooks of Kansas City,MO and John Williams III of Yonkers,NY. One daughter Latanya Wynn of Miami,FL; two brothers Michael (Annette) Jackson of New Jersey, Lester Jackson of MT Vernon, NY; two sisters, Brenda Johnson of MT Vernon, NY and Charlene Sowell of Bronx,NY; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, three uncles, Charles Jackson of Collins,GA; Randolph (Deotha) Jackson of Collins,GA and Gordon (Frances) of Los Angeles, CA. Two aunts Maryann Harold and Clora Jackson MT Vernon,NY; and special cousins Grace Cole of Philadelphia,PA and Olga Daniels of White Plains,NY. Mildred Townsend & Travis of Valdosta, GA. Devoted friends Judy Brown of MT Vernon,NY and Teresa Martin of Reidsville,GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive her.
