Vivian E. Dryden, age 78, passed away on December 30, 2019 at Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient center after a courageous year long battle with cancer.  The Wilmington North Carolina native grew up and married a Marine.  As the wife of a Marine, she bravely adapted to the demanding lifestyle.  In fact, her first plane ride was from California to Japan with three small kids and a three-month old infant!  Her travels were far and wide including going to Russia, Norway, Sweden, and Great Britain.  In 1997, Vivian moved to Reidsville; seeking a slower paced lifestyle.  She quickly became involved with various civic groups in the area, including VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Reidsville Lions Club, and Chapter 59 Special Forces Association.  In each of the organization she invested heavily of her time and talents; at the time of her death she was an officer in both the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Special Forces Association and Board member for Reidsville Lions Club.  In addition to her civic service, she was devoted to her church; Reidsville United Methodist where she was an active member.  Despite facing numerous hardships in her life, Vivian was one of the most optimistic individuals you would ever meet.  In fact, she planned to beat cancer and to take up skydiving as a hobby! Lol.  A lady in every aspect of the word, a citizen servant, and all around wonderfully kind soul; Vivian’s death will leave a void that cannot be filled.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her children's father, Eugene Osterman; her husband, John Dryden and her daughter, Sonja Faust.

Left to cherish the memories of a lifetime well lived are her significant other, Bob Keller of Atlanta; three sons, Mike (Sheree) Osterman of Pembroke, Ed (Karen) Osterman of Savannah, and Steve (Karen) Osterman of Dalesville AL; two sisters, Lynne (Harold) Howell and Allison (Jim) Newkirk both of Wilmington NC; 12 grandchildren, Jolee Osterman Shaw, Zachary Osterman, Brayley Osterman, Matthew Osterman, Cayden Osterman, Joshua Faust, Todd Faust, Jonathan Faust, Harley Faust, Spencer Osterman, Garret Morris, and Ray Osterman; 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends also survive.

Family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial.

Funeral services will be conducted beginning at 12:00pm, Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Reidsville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Marc Foster officiating.

Interment is private and will be in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
