Obituary

Savannah

William “Bill” R. Becker, United States Army Major (retired), lived a full and rich 70 years. He passed away comfortably in his home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, March 16, 2023, in Savannah, GA. He was born December 5, 1952, in Savannah, Ga to Mr. and Mrs. Meldrim and Mary Becker. Bill Becker was a member of the 82nd Airborne, after which he served as an Army nurse. He completed his career as the Chief of O.R. at Winn Army Community Hospital. His awards include the M.S.M. (2 nd award), Army Commendation Medal (4 th award), the Army Achievement Medal (3 rd award), War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Belgian Parachute Badge, and the Parachutist Badge. He was a member of the American Legion Post 135, the Savannah Volunteer Guard, and the Savannah Elks Lodge. He proudly served his country and retired from the Army after 20 years.  Following his military service, he was an active member in the community, including serving as a leader and/or volunteer to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Richmond Hill Senior Center, and the Savannah Elks Lodge.

Bill had a social and fun-loving spirit. Always friendly and gregarious, he brought joy to many through his humor, personal stories, and advice. Nothing brought him greater joy than being on the dance floor with family and friends, and he was always excited to teach the crowd the latest dance moves. Bill was a man of honor and integrity that had an all-encompassing love for God, country and family. We have lost an officer, a gentleman and a hero.

Bill’s greatest wealth was his family… He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert and Paul Becker. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Cherie Todd-Becker; brothers, Jimmy Becker (Lois) and Donald Becker; sisters, Mary Ann Jeffers, Sandra Bech, Joan Sasser, Rose Mary (Fred) DuBois, and Julie Woo; his step-children Trever and Michelle Todd, and a host of loving family and friends.

Graveside service will be Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Greenwich Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life reception at the American Legion at 1108 Bull St.
Remembrances to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Low Country Cremation and Burial is serving the Becker family.
